Text Box: The Oronogo Depot was built in 1906 as a part of the interurban electric trolley system that connected many of the small mining communities in Southwest Missouri at the turn of the 20th century.

Since the trolley system’s demise, the depot has been unused and left to decay slowly in a residential district of Oronogo, Missouri. As a unique piece of electric railroad  and U.S. history, the depot does not deserve this fate.   It may be the only “Street Car Depot” left standing today.

Thanks to the efforts of those involved with the Restoration Project, the Missouri Department Of Transportation (MoDOT) has granted the city of Oronogo $125,000 to restore their street car depot.  This grant money will go far towards changing the depot from a forgotten building to a trolley museum, community center and a meeting point for those hiking the new Ruby Jack Trail.

                                       But help is still needed.

The grant must be matched with monetary donations. The Empire District Electric Company has already contributed $5,000 towards labor and the cost of installing electricity. This is a good start, but more support is needed.

Also, volunteers willing to contribute their time and labor or any construction materials are needed to bring the depot back to its original state.    Any labor or material support from volunteers and businesses can be used as an “in Kind” contribution to the projects total cost. Please consider giving a contribution to the project.
